Install

  1. Open DeskPet.dmg and drag DeskPet to Applications.
  2. Open DeskPet. macOS says it can't verify the app; click Done.
  3. In System Settings › Privacy & Security, click Open Anyway and confirm. On macOS 14 you can instead Control-click DeskPet in Applications and choose Open.
  4. Look for the paw in your menu bar. Your new pet is waiting.

Why macOS asks

DeskPet isn't notarized by Apple yet, so macOS wants you to confirm the first launch. To check your download is the one published here, run shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/DeskPet.dmg in Terminal and compare it with the SHA-256 above.

Update or uninstall

DeskPet checks for updates once a day and asks before installing one. To uninstall, choose Quit DeskPet from the paw icon's right-click menu and drag DeskPet from Applications to the Trash. To forget your pet too, delete ~/Library/Application Support/DeskPet.
